Sports Bodies - Perfection in Motion & Grace

Okay, we all know that exercise is important if a body is going to reach the ideal in physical perfection.  This can be done through simple repetitive exercise which has only beauty and muscular development as its goal, or it can be as a part of an athletic sport.  This functional exercise leads to distinct body types that are unique to each sport, since each activity tends to favor and focus on a particular set of muscle groups.  In my personal opinion, some sports can never lead to a physically perfect and attractive body.  Endurance sports such as running & cycling create long, lean bodies with an odd hollowness to the muscles.  Extreme endurance athletes like marathon runners look almost like concentration camp victims.  They just aren't attractive.  Other sports - and even some other activities -  are reknowned for their ability to forge amazing bodies.  Just look at the personal ads and you'll see plenty of people boasting that they have a "swimmer's build" or a "dancer's body."   So for the next few posts I'm going to focus on the bodies developed in pursuit of athletic ability.

I'm starting with my personal favorite and then I'll be moving on to other sports.  #1 on my list of sports that create perfect bodies is gymnastics.  Gymnasts are forced to use every single muscle group in their bodies.  Acting against gravity, inertia & their own body weight, a gymnast developes an extreme flexibility as well as huge muscles.  What a perfect combination - a great, hard body and the ability to handle stretches and positions not seen since the kama sutra!
